E Guigal St Joseph Lieu Dit 2006 is a full-bodied red wine produced from Syrah grapes in the St Joseph appellation of the northern Rhône Valley. Founded in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley, and is often seen as a benchmark for quality Côte-Rôtie. "Very solid, with ripe and nicely rounded plum, currant and blackberry fruit flavours that are backed by ample cocoa and espresso hints. The long, creamy finish lets toast and fig cake notes play out. Drink now through 2012." Wine Spectator, 2009

Deep red. Black raspberry, kirsch and cinnamon on the nose. Suave dark berry flavors show very good depth and sweetness, with silky, integrated tannins adding support and focus. The fruit lingers impressively on the finish, which is long, sweet and juicy, with a late note of baking spices. This seductive wine will be delicious soon after release.Josh Raynolds1st January 2009

Benchmark for Côte-Rôtie excellence

Founded in the village of Ampuis by Etienne Guigal in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley, and is often seen as a benchmark for Côte-Rôtie Syrah. A pioneer of the single-vineyard concept in this appellation Guigal is best known for its top three wines, known affectionately as the 'La-Las', which is short for La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque – the domaine's top Syrah vineyards .

Other notable vineyards of this 75-hectare estate include La Doriane (the source of Guigal's Condrieu), Ex-Voto (used for Hermitage) and Vignes de l'Hospice (the source of one of Guigal's top St-Joseph Syrahs). All of these have become benchmark wines of their respective appellations. The Crozes-Hermitage appellation completes the roster of Northern Rhône estate vineyards.

Since 2006, Guigal has made a substantial investment in appellations of the Southern Rhône, using top-quality purchased fruit from trusted growers in Châteaneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and the Côtes du Rhône.
