Distilled in the late 1970s, this extraordinary 20-year-old Springbank was bottled on the 20th of December 1999, heralded as the `Last Bottling of the 20th Century.` Aged in oak casks and presented at 46% ABV, only 57 bottles of this singular malt were crafted, exclusively reserved for the shareholders, directors, and staff of J&A Mitchell Co. Ltd, the proprietors of the Springbank distillery.

Springbank

The Jewel of Campbeltown

Founded in 1828 by the Reid family, Springbank was acquired by the Mitchell family less than a decade later and has been operated by them ever since. Situated in Campbeltown, on the west coast of Scotland, Springbank actually produce whisky in three distinct styles under three different labels - Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn. Springbank is produced using the distillery's distinctive '2.5 times' distillation technique, Longrow is a double-distilled whisky made with heavily peated malt and Hazelburn is a smooth, triple distilled single malt.

Official bottlings are, thankfully, still very common and independent bottlings also quite easy to track down. Springbank has long experimented with cask finishes and experimental limited editions. In recent years, a three bottle series of "local barley" editions focussed on whisky produced using only malt from farms close to the distillery.
