Sorì San Lorenzo Gaja 1996 is a significant expression of Barbaresco Nebbiolo from one of Italy`s esteemed producers, Angelo Gaja, founded in 1859. This wine emerges from the prestigious Sorì San Lorenzo vineyard, acquired by Gaja in 1964. Traditionally a Nebbiolo-dominant blend, this vintage remains true to its heritage, characterised by dark fruit aromas, earthy notes and a hint of tar. Its structured profile is complemented by firm tannins, providing potential for long-term ageing.

Gaja's 1996 Sorì San Lorenzo is epic. A huge, towering wine, the 1996 Sorì San Lorenzo wraps around the palate with magnificent depth, power and intensity. Smoke, charcoal embers, menthol, licorice, plum, spice and gravel are all pushed forward. Sorì San Lorenzo always yields broad, virile wines. Those qualities marry perfectly with the style of the vintage to produce a vivid, memorable wine of the very highest level. Readers who own or can find the 1996 Sorì San Lorenzo should not hesitate, as it is truly thrilling from the very first taste. Wow!Antonio Galloni1st October 2017

The Gaja Winery was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja and has been owned and operated by five generations of the Gaja family. One of Italy’s most renowned and dynamic wineries, Gaja first established its world-class reputation with the powerful reds it produced in the region of Piemonte in Northwestern Italy.

A key figure was Angelo Gaja, who took over the running of the estate in 1970 and sought to showcase the best that the Nebbiolo grape could produce with stellar Barolo and Barbaresco wines. The estate produces unique white wines too, such as the marvellous single varietal Sauvignon Blanc, Alteni di Brassica.

Gaja is also a leading name in Tuscany, having diversified into the production of Brunello and Super Tuscan wines. The Gaja family have owned the Pieve Santa Restituta estate since 1994 from which they produce two single-vineyard Brunello di Montalcino wines, Rennina and Sugarille. In 1996, Angelo Gaja purchased the Ca’Marcanda estate in Bolgheri.
