Argiano Solengo 2001 is a mature-vintage Supertuscan red blend from the Montalcino region of Tuscany. This wine from the picturesque Argiano estate in the southern part of the Montalcino zone is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Sangiovese aged for 17 months in new French oak barrels. Argiano produces concentrated, elegant Brunellos and Supertuscan blends with long ageing potential. With a winemaking history extending as far back as the middle of the 17th century, the estate has been central to the promotion of the Montalcino region - it was instrumental, for instance, in founding the Consorzio del vino Brunello di Montalcino in 1967. The 2001 is available here in magnum format. "Still one of the top wines of the region. Bold and exotic, with a muscular style. Full-bodied, with fantastic, velvety tannins and a long, opulent finish. Got to love this wild wine." Wine Spectator, 2003
