Crafted at the renowned Cumulus Vineyard in Oak View, California, this 2012 release from Sine Qua Non is a complex blend comprising 38% Syrah, 37% Grenache, 17% Petite Sirah, and 8% Mourvèdre. The Krankl family, known for pioneering Rhône varietals in California, oversees the estate, where the grapes thrive in a unique microclimate. The wine exhibits an alcohol content of 15.1% and matures for 33 months in 54% new French oak barrels. Its profile includes notes of blackberries, dark chocolate, and exotic spices. Limited to fewer than 200 cases, it is exclusively available through a private mailing list, ensuring its rarity for collectors.
One of the highlights in this tasting, the 2012 Next of Kyn - No. 6 belongs to a group of vintages including 2007 and 2009 that are all about suppleness and raciness. Bright, perfumed and nicely lifted, the 2012 is also quite delicate. Grenache plays an important role in the blend, and that comes through in the wine’s silky, punchy fruit.
