Sine Qua Non Eleven Confessions Grenache 2020 is a full-bodied, single-vineyard red wine from the Santa Barbara County of California. Sine Qua Non was founded in the early 90s by pioneering winemaker Manfred Krankl and rapidly became a world-famous winery revered for producing miniscule quantities of unique, but astonishingly high quality, Rhône Valley-inspired wines. The grapes for this sought-after cuvée come from Sine Qua Non`s Eleven Confessions vineyard, which is located in the Santa Rita Hills appellation of Santa Barbara. The cool, maritime-influenced climate of this region contributes to the elegance and balance of the wines produced here. The vineyard`s sandy loam soils add complexity to the wine.

Another stellar wine in this range, the 2020 Grenache Eleven Confessions Vineyard is every bit as compelling as it was from barrel. A wine of exquisite aromatic presence and nuance, the 2020 is all class. It shows all the natural richness that is such a signature here while retaining gorgeous, open-knit aromatics that resonate off a rich core of fruit. Raspberry and pomegranate open first, followed by exotic, tropical fruit accents that build in the glass. This is such a distinctive wine shaped by a touch of Gelber Muskateller in the blend that adds flair. The blend is 82% Grenache, 12.1% Syrah, 3.3% Petite Sirah and 1.6% Gelber Muskateller, all from Eleven Confessions.Antonio Galloni1st August 2024

Art and Fine Wine Collide

The wines of Sine Qua Non need little introduction. Mould breaking, iconoclastic, visionary are just some of the descriptors invoked when critics and wine lovers discuss this unique winery. Based in Ventura, north of LA, the wines of Sine Qua Non regularly notch up perfect scores from critics while the waiting list for a direct allocation is well over ten years.

Founded by Manfred and Elaine Krankl in the early 1990s, the duo swiftly gained attention from wine lovers and critics for their superb Rhône blend wines, quirky labels and uncompromising approach in the vineyard and cellar. The winery has experimented with producing Oregon Pinot Noir, dessert wines and an array of quirky single varietal reds and whites, but generally revert to producing the wines for which they are most famous - Grenache and Syrah. The wines are generally big and bold, but those who like things cranked up to eleven should look no further than Manfred's "extended barrel ageing" program.
