Sine Qua Non was founded in the early 90s by pioneering winemaker Manfred Krankl and rapidly became a world-famous winery revered for producing miniscule quantities of unique, but astonishingly high quality, Rhône Valley-inspired wines. The 2019 Non Distenta is a lovely blend of 83.6% Syrah, 3% Mourvèdre, 5.2% Petite Sirah, 6.2% Grenache, 1.4% Muscat, 0.6% Petit Manseng. Awarded 100 points by Robert Parker`s Wine Advocate, this is a wine that has met with great critical acclaim, packed with wonderfully fragrant red fruit and glorious sweet spice character.

The 2019 Syrah Distenta I is gorgeous. Dark, seamless and layered, the 2019 boasts phenomenal balance and intensity. Plush black fruit, plum, licorice, chocolate and incense build as the 2019 gently unfurls in the glass. There's real depth and texture here. Touches of Grenache, Petite Sirah, Mourvèdre, Muscat and Petite Manseng round out the blend. Antonio Galloni25th August 2022

Art and Fine Wine Collide

The wines of Sine Qua Non need little introduction. Mould breaking, iconoclastic, visionary are just some of the descriptors invoked when critics and wine lovers discuss this unique winery. Based in Ventura, north of LA, the wines of Sine Qua Non regularly notch up perfect scores from critics while the waiting list for a direct allocation is well over ten years.

Founded by Manfred and Elaine Krankl in the early 1990s, the duo swiftly gained attention from wine lovers and critics for their superb Rhône blend wines, quirky labels and uncompromising approach in the vineyard and cellar. The winery has experimented with producing Oregon Pinot Noir, dessert wines and an array of quirky single varietal reds and whites, but generally revert to producing the wines for which they are most famous - Grenache and Syrah. The wines are generally big and bold, but those who like things cranked up to eleven should look no further than Manfred's "extended barrel ageing" program.
