Duty Charges

Below is a summary of the new duty charges per bottle as of February 2026. Please note that these vary depending on the ABV and are subject to change. Please get in touch if you require more information:

Transparent Billing and Rate Calculations

Annual Billing: Clients are invoiced annually based on the wines stored in the preceding year.
Case Equivalents: A case is defined as 9 litres of wine (typically twelve 750ml bottles), ensuring clarity in pricing.
Pro-Rata Charges: Storage fees are charged on a per-bottle basis, and wines stored for part of a month will be billed accordingly.

How to Use Our Bonded Storage

Purchase en primeur or under-bond wines from Hedonism Wines.
Automatically enjoy twelve months of free storage at our bonded storage when you open your storage account.
After twelve months, your storage will continue at the rates outlined above, with quarterly invoicing.
When you are ready to receive your wines, simply request delivery. Most orders are fulfilled within 3-4 working days.

The Shafer Hillside Select 1999 is a Cabernet Sauvignon crafted from meticulously tended vineyards in the Stags Leap District. This vintage exhibits a deep, opaque purple hue. Aromas of blackcurrant, dried herbs and subtle earthiness emerge, complemented by notes of cedar and anise. The wine presents a firm structure, characterised by robust tannins and elevated acidity. This vintage reveals a cerebral character, likely to evolve over several years.

Bright, saturated ruby. Very ripe aromas of black cherry, licorice, molten chocolate, mint and minerals; some very ripe suggestions. Generous, plush and powerful if still youthful and brooding. The flavors of dark berries and spices show a chocolatey ripeness as well as a savory tobacco quality. Conveys a strong impression of depth and a tactile impression of extract. This thick, savory wine finishes with strong but suave tannins and terrific breadth and length, filling the mouth without turning ponderous. Very impressive! A vintage I was never as fond of as many of my colleagues, the 1999 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select certainly proved that they may have been more correct. Certainly not one of the all-time Shafer Hillsides, but nevertheless, a youthful, tannic, firm, structured wine, with more intellectual than hedonistic appeal at age 16, this wine has a dense purple color to the rim, notes of licorice, tobacco leaf, blackcurrants, followed by relatively high acids for a Hillside Select (or at least they present themselves that way) with some rather massive tannin. This is a big, medium to full-bodied wine with a Bordeaux-like structure imposed on it. It’s still moving in the right direction, and should hit its peak in another 4-5 years and then last for 15-20.Robert Parker30th December 2014

A Family Tradition

An icon of modern winemaking in the Napa Valley, Shafer Vineyards was founded in 1972 by John Shafer, who left a career in publishing to pursue his passion for oenology in California. John and family moved into an estate in Stag's Leap District and began work re-establishing vineyards on the surrounding land. Around five years later, the first Cabernet Sauvignon was produced and it was clear that John had a natural talent for winemaking. Since then, the portfolio has expanded to include Merlot, Syrah and Chardonnay-based wines to name but a few - quality is high across the board and the team pay close attention to preserving varietal character across all bottlings.

John sadly passed away in 2019 and the winery is now managed by his son Doug - a graduate of UC Davis. Doug continues his father's work in partnership with Elias Fernandez, assistant winemaker at Shafer Vineyards. Their flagship wine is Hillside Select, produced using 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged for 32 months in new French oak.
