`Série Ímpar` or ‘Experimental Series’ is, as the name suggests, a unique series of experimental wine from the Sogrape winemakers, here showcasing the rare native white Sercialinho variety. Offering up an exquisite purity of waxy citrus on the nose, together with harmoniously integrated oak and refreshing acidity, the wine concludes on a beautifully pure finish.

The 2019 Série Impar Sercialinho was aged in a mixture of barrels and large casks. It comes in at 12.4% alcohol. This should not be confused with the one made by Luis Pato. Fernando Guedes, Sogrape`s CEO, says they are not sure it is the same grape.
This is only made from free-run juice. A touch flinty, this overcomes that nuance, whether by wood, reduction or some of both, thanks to its fine acidity. There`s a bit of tartness around the edges, and it finishes with tension, the barrel aging intended to round it off a little. This can age a bit, but with no real track record (this is the second vintage), we`ll see how it goes in time. It is certainly a wine that needs food, and it is beautifully constructed.
