Schrader RBS Beckstoffer To Kalon Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 is a single-clone wine (Clone 6) sourced from the famed To Kalon vineyard in Oakville, Napa Valley. Known for its exceptional terroir, this vineyard is recognised as one of California`s premier sites for Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2005 vintage reveals focused aromas of blackcurrant, cocoa and cassis, complemented by hints of earth and spice. On the palate, it showcases a robust structure with muscular tannins and a lengthy finish.
90 Vinous
Good deep ruby. Vibrant aromas of crushed blackberry, bitter chocolate and violet. Quite suave on entry, then chewy and juicy in the middle, with strong acidity giving the wine sharp definition. Less obviously sweet than the 2004; in fact, this is distinctly firmer in texture and evolving slowly. Finishes with a note of dark chocolate. This will be entirely from Clone 337, which needs long hang time on the vines.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2007

In Search of the Perfect Cabernet

Fred Schrader founded Schrader Cellars in 1998 with a goal of making the best Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon possible. Since then, the brand has gained renown for its incredible vineyard sourcing (Beckstoffer To Kalon, Las Piedras, and Georges III) and remarkably gifted winemaker, Thomas Brown. Since its inception, Schrader has achieved a total of thirty-five 100-point scores from the likes of The Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator, Jeb Dunnuck, and James Suckling.

Formally an art dealer, Fred Schrader had long been searching for terroir that would allow him to producer high quality Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa - that search led Fred directly to the office of legendary grape grower W. Andrew Beckstoffer. The partnership began with a small selection of vine rows in the historic Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard - as the partnership great, so did the number of vines available to Schrader and now some of the finest blocks in To Kolan go into Schrader's wines.
