Schäfer-Fröhlich Halenberg Riesling 2011 hails from the renowned Monzinger Halenberg vineyard in the Nahe region of Germany, a site characterised by its steep, 70% gradient and predominantly blue slate and quartzite soils. Winemaker Tim Fröhlich utilises traditional methods, fermenting with indigenous yeasts in both neutral oak and stainless steel to maintain clarity and acidity. This Grosses Gewächs exhibits a defined interplay of apricot and peach notes, underpinned by a distinct mineral spine that reflects the volcanic influences of the vineyard. As a benchmark for the estate, this Riesling reveals the intricate balance of power and finesse that defines one of the Nahe’s esteemed terriors.

Reduced sulphur nose. There is lots going on underneath. Tingly – the wild, off-Nahe version! But you really have to be a believer… (JR)
