Taken over by Domaine Prieuré Roch in 2018, Dessus Les Gollardes is located to the north of the Beaune slope within the Savigny appellation. The plot spans 1.15 hectares of Pinot Noir and 0.4 hectares of Chardonnay. Its position above the village of Savigny-les-Beaunes, its stony soil, and its elevated location yield very indulgent wines. Surprisingly, this plot produces Pinot Noirs with a distinctive ‘Côtes de Nuit’ character.

Prieure Roch

A Burgundian Titan

Founded in 1988 by Henri-Frédéric Roch, whose family are part-owners of the famous Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Prieure Roch produce wine from vineyard parcels in communes as diverse as Ladoix, Chambertin, Vosne Romanée and Savigny Les Beune. Farming of the vineyards is done to organic standards, veering towards full biodynamics in some instances and cellar techniques are strictly traditional - vinified in large wooden vats, manual punching down and without the use of sulphur.

Wines are kept in barrel for 12-24 months before bottling, although some experiments with extended ageing have taken place - most notably in 2002. These are elegant wines with the ripeness and poise that one would expect from a family that also produce arguable some of the world's great Pinot Noir.
