Originally founded in 1880, Domaine Simon Bize et Fils is a family-owned estate based in Savigny-les-Beaune. This particular cuvée comes from Les Talmettes, a premier cru vineyard in the Côte de Beaune where the domaine owns a 0.8-hectare plot of old vines. Naturally protected from the winds blowing in from the north, Les Talmettes produces a typically softer wine than that of the neighbouring Les Vergelesses.

The 2010 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Talmettes is strikingly good, unfurling in the glass with notes of red and black berry fruit, orange peel, dark chocolate, espresso roast, peony and grilled squab. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, elegant and expansive, with melting tannins, succulent acids and a long, sapid finish. It's an impeccably balanced Savigny from one of Chisa Bize's favorite vintages.William Kelley31st January 2019
