Never Been Asked To Dance 2024 is a single-vineyard Chenin Blanc from Duncan Savage, sourced from old bush vines planted on the decomposed granite slopes of the Paardeberg. This vintage is fermented and aged in large-format neutral oak to preserve the raw, mineral-driven character of the site. It delivers a complex profile of bruised apple, citrus zest and wet wool, underpinned by a bracing acidity and a distinct pithy texture. Savage’s winemaking focuses on purity and tension, resulting in a wine with an electric energy and a long, saline finish.

The 2024 Never Been Asked to Dance is pure Chenin from the fourth oldest vines in the Cape that, at one time, were going to be pulled out, whole bunch pressed and aged in 600-litre Stockinger barrels. This is compelling on the nose with yellow fruit, dried honey and light chamomile scents that blossom in the glass. The palate is taut and fresh, more about the texture than overt fruit flavours, with light touches of stem ginger and a linear finish. Very fine, but give it time in bottle.
