Clos Rougeard is a renowned wine producer located in the Saumur-Champigny appellation within the Loire Valley. It is a family-owned estate, and the Foucault brothers, Charly and Nady, were instrumental in establishing its reputation. The vineyards of Clos Rougeard are meticulously tended, with an emphasis on low yields and achieving optimal ripeness. This Saumur Champigny from Clos Rougeard is considered the flagship red wine of their portfolio. On the nose, expect aromas of ripe cherries, blackberries, and plums, accompanied by herbal and floral notes. The palate reveals a medium to full body wine, with well-integrated tannins and a balanced acidity.

Deep red cherry aromas combine with subtle fresh earthiness suggesting beautiful refinement once it ages. Made from Cabernet Franc vines (some nearly a century old) from several clay and limestone plots. Also striking: crystal clear fruit purity in a most delicious, juicy palate that excites both senses and intellect - excellent showing from the most "basic" of the three reds from Clos Rougeard. No new oak for the 24 months ageing, then 4 years in bottle before release.Panos Kakaviatos27th November 2023

The 2017 Le Clos is a blend of 15 sites across five hectares. It is a richly fragrant, brooding style, with lots of complex layers. Light on its feet, its compact core is rich with texture, and its flavors linger long. There's a meaty edge, olives, dried herbs and a rather drying conclusion, which is a bit suspect and leaves a question mark for its future longevity.Rebecca Gibb30th January 2024

Aromas of tomato leaves, licorice, dark wild berries and spices preface the 2017 Saumur Champigny Le Clos, a medium-bodied, supple and suave wine, with a tense and gourmand palate, concluding with a firm finish, which, unfortunately, is marked by carnal notes and somewhat rustic tannins.Yohan Castaing13th June 2024
