Domaine Guiberteau is one of the leading producers in the Loire Valley, producing profoundly complex and ageworthy wines from the sublime hillside terroir of Brézé, in Saumur. Though the estate dates back to the 1900s, Romain did not assume control until 1996. However, in just a few years, and guided by the likes of Clos Rougeard’s Nady Foucault, he has elevated this 9.4-hectare domaine to the highest echelons of the region.
This gorgeous Chenin Blanc comes from the monopole of Clos de Guichaux, a historically renowned vineyard in Bizay, near Brézé, replanted in 2003 with vine material from the domaine’s oldest vines. It is a beautiful wine with crystalline white fruits and layers of chalky mineral depth. Élevage in seasoned 600-litre barrels with the lees for 12 months lends subtle creamy texture, giving an incredibly seductive mouthfeel, yet superb natural acidity provides abundant cleansing freshness.
