Ruchottes Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes Armand Rousseau 2005 is a Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy. This single-vineyard wine originates from a plot that covers a mere 1.72 hectares. The 2005 growing season yielded wines of substantial character, and this example exhibits notes of black cherries, autumn leaves and earthy undertones. The structure is firm, with well-integrated tannins that promise longevity.

The 2005 Clos des Ruchottes is far too young to approach at the moment and like many others, it appears to be closing up. Here, the aromatics are closed, broody and stubborn, only reluctantly offering fleeting glimpses of black cherries, incense and minerals. The palate is very pure but distant at the moment, a prodigy without a tongue. But the signs are all here. a firm backbone, layer upon layer of fruit, but a wine that is more impressive than pleasurable at the moment. Got some in your cellar? Keep it there, you lucky thing. Drink 2020-2040+. Tasted September 2013. - Neal Martin

Good bright cherry-red. High-pitched, very classy aromas of pungent red berries, red cherry, rose petal and mint. Juicy and tightly wound, showing less texture today than the Mazy or the Clos de la Roche (last year it seemed fuller). But this is impressively pure and precise, thanks to a very firm spine of tannins and acids. Extremely young and juicy wine, finishing with sneaky intensity of flavor and a lingering note of maraschino cherry. I may be underestimating this.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2008
