Founded at the start of the 20th century, Armand Rousseau is a leading wine producer in Burgundy, currently managed by Eric Rousseau with the assistance of his daughter Cyriell. The Domaine consists of approximately 15 hectares, over half of which is situated in Grand Cru sites, including a 1-hectare plot in Ruchottes-Chambertin. The 1985 vintage in Burgundy, including Ruchottes-Chambertin, is considered one of the standout vintages of the decade, offering wines of great character and longevity.

The 1985 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru is one of my favourite vintages of this cuvée. It is blessed with a mesmerizing bouquet that (as I wrote before) seems to momentarily stop time. Pure red fruit with orange pith, petrichor and a pinch of Earl Grey. The intensity is just magnificent. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin, effervescent and full of tension with a cashmere and still sensual finish that leaves you gagging for another sip. Sublime in every way. Tasted at a private dinner in London. Neal Martin1st May 2019
