Domaine de la Romanée-Conti – or simply DRC for short – is undoubtedly one of the most exclusive wine producers in the world. Situated in the village of Vosne-Romanée, DRC is co-owned by the Villaine and Leroy families and produces only grand cru wines. The Romanée-Saint-Vivant cuvée is made from a 5.28-hectare vineyard holding, where the vines’ average age is 35 years old. This release is from the 2011 vintage and available here in a magnum format. It is a remarkable example of the vintage and a classically red fruity and spicy rendition of this supremely elegant terroir.

Dark, bright red. Discreet, pristine aromas of raspberry, violet, rose petal and earth. Dense, pure and round, boasting terrific volume to its fat, sweet flavors of strawberry, raspberry, chocolate and underbrush. This really saturates the mouth and glistens on the perfumed, seamless aftertaste. Tannins are extremely fine-grained and smooth. Incidentally, some of the replanted vines in this grand cru went into the 2012 RSV for the first time.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2014
