Established and managed by the relentless Mme. Lalou Bize-Leroy, Domaine Leroy is one of the most iconic estates in Burgundy and produces some of the most highly sought-after wines in the world. Leroy owns just 0.99ha of the hallowed Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru, acquired in 1988 when the estate was founded with the purchase of Charles Nöellat’s holdings. This is a stellar release from the excellent 2005 vintage, with The Wine Advocate awarding it 97 points.

Saturated ruby-red. Captivating aromas of maraschino cherry, cocoa powder and rose petal. Dense, chewy and sappy, with explosive, palate-saturating maraschino cherry given grip by a strong core of minerality. Conveys a powerfully tactile impression of extract. Extremely long and chewy on the back end; in fact, one of the longest 2005s I sampled in November. A knockout in the making.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2007

Domaine Leroy

Burgundian Royalty

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988).

In 1988, recognising the trend towards domaine bottling in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased what would become Domaine Leroy: an estate situated in Vosne-Romanée (previously known by the name Domaine Noëllat). Domaine Leroy labelled wines are thus are produced from parcels of grapes grown on the 22ha of domaine-owned Côte d'Or vineyards, which span nine different Grand Crus. These wines are produced biodynamically and at extremely low yields, resulting in superbly concentrated expressions of the Burgundian terroir.
