An exquisitely mature Grand Cru with exuberant complexity of dried fruit, prunes and sous bois notes, together with floral hints, spice and savoury meaty character. Precision and elegance on the palate, with a juicy, velvety finish. A lovely find from the 1997 vintage from the iconic Domaine Leroy.
94 Vinous
Deep red-ruby, not as dark as the extraordinary Santenots. Knockout nose of raspberry, cocoa, licorice, roast coffee and minerals. Glyceral in the mouth and extremely concentrated; offers great fat but with solid supporting backbone. Despite its obvious volume, though, this wine has closed down in the middle palate. Finishes with outstanding length and strong iron and earth tones. Has there been a more consistently spectacular Burgundy cuvée than this one through the decade of the '90s?Stephen Tanzer1st March 2000

Domaine Leroy

Burgundian Royalty

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988).

In 1988, recognising the trend towards domaine bottling in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased what would become Domaine Leroy: an estate situated in Vosne-Romanée (previously known by the name Domaine Noëllat). Domaine Leroy labelled wines are thus are produced from parcels of grapes grown on the 22ha of domaine-owned Côte d'Or vineyards, which span nine different Grand Crus. These wines are produced biodynamically and at extremely low yields, resulting in superbly concentrated expressions of the Burgundian terroir.
