La Romanée-Conti Grand Cru is a monopole vineyard of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and is often singled out as Burgundy’s greatest terroir. Originally called Cros des Cloux, this hallowed vineyard has a long and illustrious history, but its more modern era began with the first new vintage bottling from DRC in 1952, after replanting of the vines in 1947-48. The 1995 was hindered by a cold spell in May, yet DRC remained unaffected, producing a classic iteration of their flagship wine.

Vinous
Superripe plum and currant aromas; shows the liqueur-like sweetness of La Tache. Thick, deep and even fuller than La Tache. Builds slowly but inexorably in the mouth. A core of exotic spices gives the flavor great complexity. Wonderfully persistent, authoritative back end.Stephen Tanzer1st March 1998
