Roc de Cambes is a renowned wine producer located in the Côtes de Bourg appellation. The estate is owned and operated by François Mitjavile, who is also the owner of Château Tertre Rôteboeuf in Saint-Émilion. The vineyards are planted with a variety of grape varieties, including Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. The wines of Roc de Cambes are often praised for their richness, depth, and complexity, offering a distinctive expression of the Right Bank. The 2010 vintage is already very accessible now, especially when decanted, but should reward further cellaring.

The 2010 Roc de Cambes has a high-toned floral bouquet with rose petal and violet scents, but missing some complexity and delineation. The aromatics feel “blocky”. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, quite extracted towards the finish with dates and figgy notes infusing the black fruit. It just does not kick on and lacks some tension. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal. Neal Martin1st April 2020

Tasted blind. Deep garnet with brick rim. Still has masses of sweet black fruit on the nose as well as all that undergrowth. Ripe and sweet. A bit tough on the palate. A big tannic wine that finishes a little bit hard, perhaps the combination of alcohol and tannins? I generally rather like this wine so I was a bit disappointed when I realised what it was. I don’t think the Mitjavile wines shine (for me) in this sort of context (cf my note on Tertre Roteboeuf 2010, also tasted blind today). (JH) Julia Harding12th February 2020
