Robert Moncuit Les Grands Blancs NV is a blanc de blancs Champagne from the Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. This non-vintage bottling presents a chiselled, chalky purity and taut structure, showcasing notes of lemon zest, green apple and profound minerality. The house focuses on lower dosage and extended ageing on the lees to provide complexity and textural finesse.

Full bottle 1,591 g. 100% Chardonnay from grand cru vineyards (Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger) in the Côte des Blancs. Base wine 2020, reserve wine 2019. Base wine is spontaneously fermented in oak barrels with full malo, 10 months on fine lees without bâtonnage, fining or filtration. 27 months sur lattes. Disgorged October 2023, dosage 0 g/l.If I hadn`t scrutinised the back label for background information before tasting this wine, I would never have guessed that this was zero dosage. The golden, honeyed, baroque weight of this wine is extraordinary. Quince and liquorice lacework. Nectarine and smoked cream. Needle-fine pointwork of elderflower embroidery. There is grandeur and power in the structure beneath luminous, feathery brushwork of acidity and flavour. It`s just a little idiosyncratic, curling away from the main track of champagne with vermouth-like snags of honey and bitterness and tiny swirls of medicinal botanicals. The bubbles hiss and rush like foam on waves up the beach, and then pull back leaving slow, ragged traces of lace. A champagne that deserves to be drunk thoughtfully at the table with great food.
