Established in 1959, Ridge is known for its commitment to crafting high-quality, terroir-driven wines that reflect the unique characteristics of their vineyards. The winery is particularly famous for its Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Chardonnay, which have received critical acclaim from wine experts and enthusiasts alike. Ridge Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is a distinguished Bordeaux-style blend, boasting aromas of cassis, black currant and graphite. The palate unveils a combination of dark fruit, subtle tobacco and savoury herbs, all framed by firm tannins and elegant acidity. Its enduring finish underscores the wine`s exceptional balance and age-worthiness. Available here in a fabulous magnum format.

The 2019 Monte Bello is a wild, exotic wine. Huge, soaring aromatics meld into a core of heady, exotically ripe fruit. Not a shy wine by any means, the 2019 is atypically opulent, and yet all of the classic Monte Bello structure is there, underneath all of that fruit. The 2019 needs time in bottle to shed its baby fat, but there is a lot to look forward to. I imagine it will always be a pretty exuberant wine. Inky red fruit, blood orange, espresso, sweet American oak, cedar and pipe tobacco leave a lasting impression. In a word: magnificent!Antonio Galloni31st May 2022

Mountain Wines of Distinction

Named after the historic vineyard area of Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains has been a byword for fine Californian wine since the early 1960s. Ridge shot to fame in the fabled 1976 Judgement of Paris. It was at this groundbreaking blind tasting that the 1971 Ridge Monte Bello was pitted against some of the most revered First Growths of Bordeaux. It placed fifth. (NB: in a re-enactment of the same tasting held in 2006, Monte Bello 1971 placed first.)

Under legendary winemaker Paul Draper, Ridge Vineyards became renowned for the exceptional quality of its single-vineyard wines. Though Draper has now retired, the estate continues to produce terroir-focused wines with the same commitment to organic farming and traditional winemaking techniques. From the fine Bordeaux blends and Chardonnays of Monte Bello to the Zinfandels of Lytton Springs and Geyserville in Sonoma, and all points in between, Ridge Vineyards remains one of the most celebrated names in California wine.
