Anne Gros, the only daughter of François Gros, has established an exceptional reputation for the domaine she took over from her father in 1988. This wine is made from a tiny 0.6-hectare lieu-dit of Richebourg Grand Cru called “Les Verroilles”, which was purchased by Louis Gustave Gros in 1882 and has vines between 50- and 70 years of age. Perhaps the most structured and broad of all the estate’s wines, this still has hallmark elegance, finesse and focus. Still a little young to be showing its full spectrum of complexity, this should drink well from 2023 through to 2035+.

Bright medium red. Perfumed scents of black raspberry and espresso are complicated by soil-driven smoke and crushed-rock notes. The richest and most tactile of these young 2014s but also with great finesse to the flavors of red berries, rose petal, saline minerality and pepper. The wine's tannins are serious and deep but not hard. This true-to-its-terroir beauty really saturates the palate under a wave of flavor.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2017

The 2014 Richebourg Grand Cru, from 75- and 50-year-old vines, has a crisp and poised bouquet with blackberry and blueberry, wonderful mineralité here and great precision, with the oak neatly dovetailed into the fruit. The palate is precise and structured. There is a superb backbone here; this is very focused and a more masculine, linear Richebourg. There is a sense aristocracy here with great sustain on the finish. Give it a decade before broaching, as I suspect it will end up in the top of my banded score. Neal Martin31st December 2015
