Realm Cellars was founded in 2002 by two friends, Juan Mercado and Wendell Laidley. Scott Becker took over in 2012 and the estate is focuses on small-batch, high-quality wines, highlighting the unique characteristics of each vineyard site. This release exemplifies their commitment to artisanal winemaking.
The Realm Cellars Farella Vineyard 2012 is a Cabernet Sauvignon based blend, from the Coombsville AVA in Napa Valley. A complex site in the foothills of the Vaca Mountain range, one of the cooler areas in Napa. The fruit for this cuvee comes form the highest point in the vineyard. Realm has produced this single vineyard Cabernet since 2003.
This vintage showcases a core of dark fruit, complemented by earthy undertones and subtle oak influence. Firm tannins support the wine`s structure, promising longevity.

The single-vineyard 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard comes from a hillside, cool-climate site in the Coombsville AVA in the eastern Vaca Mountains. In the past, much of this fruit went into early vintages of Opus One. This is a tannic, opulent, backward, primary effort displaying an inky/purple color along with notes of incense, camphor, toast and abundant black fruits. Full-bodied, dramatic, slightly tannic and structured, this masculine-styled 2012 will benefit from several years in the cellar, and should drink well for two decades. A true first-growth vineyard is the Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard, which is located in the heart of St. Helena just off Route 29. The vineyard is planted primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon and two small parcels of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. For whatever reason, anyone who gets fruit off this vineyard tends to make wines that hit every sweet spot on the palate. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

- The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard is a dark brooding wine. Far from an easygoing Cabernet, as many 2012s are, the Farella packs a serious punch of both fruit and structure. All the qualities of this Coombsville site come through loud and clear. Gravel, smoke, crème de cassis, licorice, dried flowers and spice infuse the 2012 with striking savory intensity and layers of nuance. This is such a compelling and vivid wine.
