2016 is a highly acclaimed vintage in Bordeaux and Château Rauzan-Ségla produced a showstopping wine that will almost certainly rank amongst the finest ever releases from this acclaimed Margaux estate. A blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, it is powerful and voluminous, with incredibly concentrated notes of cassis, black cherry, tobacco, spring flowers and graphite. Though it has plenty of youthful appeal this will be even better with a few more years of bottle age and will continue to evolve over the next 20-30 years.

A blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2016 Rauzan-Segla is deep garnet in color, with a touch of purple. It needs a lot of swirling to wake up profound scents of crème de cassis, black cherry compote, and plum pudding, followed by nuances of cumin, unsmoked cigars, star anise, and black truffles. The medium-bodied palate delivers a firm backbone of super-ripe, grainy tannins and a refreshing line to cut through the dense, muscular black fruits, finishing long and opulent. It still needs some time, but WOW!Lisa Perrotti-Brown21st March 2024

The 2016 Rauzan-Ségla has an elegant bouquet that needs some coaxing from the glass, eventually revealing red berry fruit, rose petal, chai tea and light bergamot aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with very supple tannins that lend a silky-smooth texture. This has a fine line of acidity and impressive harmony on the finish. Wonderful. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting. Neal Martin1st August 2020

A Margaux Super Second

Setting the bar for quality winemaking in Margaux, the vineyards of Château Rauzan-Ségla are planted to 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 1% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot and are used to produce both the prestigious first wine and the second wine, known as Ségla.

These are wonderfully elegant, vibrant reds that see 60-70% new oak. Considered by many to be one of the greatest properties in Margaux, Rauzan-Ségla is now firmly established as one of Bordeaux`s ‘Super Seconds’.
