Rauzan-Segla 2016 is a Bordeaux red wine from the Margaux appellation, benefiting from the ideal growing conditions of a legendary vintage. This 2016 bottling is a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, grown on the deep, fine gravel soils that characterise the property’s best parcels. It offers an explosive aromatic profile of blackcurrants, violets and cedar, supported by a dense yet remarkably polished tannic structure. Winemaking involves meticulous selection and maturation in 60% new French oak, resulting in a wine of immense concentration and architectural poise. It is a sophisticated and long-lived expression of Margaux, balancing its powerful fruit core with a persistent, mineral-flecked finish that marks it as one of the finest wines produced in the appellation this century.

A blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2016 Rauzan-Segla is deep garnet in color, with a touch of purple. It needs a lot of swirling to wake up profound scents of crème de cassis, black cherry compote, and plum pudding, followed by nuances of cumin, unsmoked cigars, star anise, and black truffles. The medium-bodied palate delivers a firm backbone of super-ripe, grainy tannins and a refreshing line to cut through the dense, muscular black fruits, finishing long and opulent. It still needs some time, but WOW!Lisa Perrotti-Brown21st March 2024

The 2016 Rauzan-Ségla has an elegant bouquet that needs some coaxing from the glass, eventually revealing red berry fruit, rose petal, chai tea and light bergamot aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with very supple tannins that lend a silky-smooth texture. This has a fine line of acidity and impressive harmony on the finish. Wonderful. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting. Neal Martin1st August 2020

Much more fragrant than the Ch Prieuré-Lichine just tasted. Cassis fruit and leaves and pencil shavings. Fresh, lively and in perfect harmony. Juicy, balanced if not dazzling. (JH)
