Saint-Émilion estate Château Tertre Daugay was purchased by Domaine Clarence Dillon (of Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion) in 2011 and was reborn with a new name, Château Quintus. A superb expression of Saint-Emilion’s exceptional clay-limestone terroir and a perfect marriage of 55.4% Merlot and 44.6% Cabernet Franc. The bouquet is powerful, intense and complex, and bursting with notes of ripe,
black fruit, particularly blackcurrant, with spicy, subtle overtones. Full on the palate with smooth, creamy fine-grained tannins, concluding on a long finish.

The 2019 Quintus has quite a high-toned and outgoing bouquet with liquorice and tinged black fruit. Quite powerful, this gains more cohesion with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, very well balanced, with sappy, pure black fruit laced with minerals and a precise if glossy finish. Wonderful. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.
