A Right Bank blend from Saint-Émilion, the 1998 Château Quinault L’Enclos is composed of approximately 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine opens with an inviting bouquet of ripe blackberry, plum, and black cherry, complemented by hints of violets and subtle oak influence. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with silky tannins and well-integrated acidity, reflecting the evolution of over two decades of ageing. Earthy undertones of tobacco, truffle, and graphite emerge alongside a refined spice element, with lingering notes of licorice and dark cocoa adding further complexity. Crafted under Alain Raynaud’s meticulous stewardship, this vintage demonstrates both structure and elegance, capturing the finesse of the estate’s gravelly terroir.

Good ruby-red. Youthful but complex aromas of black cherry, iron, tar, game, espresso and chicory. Lush, deep and oaky, with good finesse and sound structure. Finishes with noteworthy length and substantial but ripe tannins.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2000
