Arnaud Ente Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1999 is a medium-bodied Burgundy white wine from the Premier Cru climat of Les Referts in the Puligny-Montrachet commune of the Côte de Beaune. Based in Meursault, Domaine Arnaud Ente manages just four hectares of vineyards, producing Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Bourgogne wines that are renowned for their precision and elegance. Historically, the style has tended towards the opulent, with late picking for fuller ripeness being a key part of Arnaud`s philosophy in the 1990s. Situated to the east of Les Combettes and Les Perrieres in Puligny, Les Referts is a well-regarded 1er Cru that tends to produce relatively muscular, full-bodied Chardonnays owing to the high proportion of iron-rich clay in the soil.

White flowers, lemon cream and a steely nuance on the ripe, precise nose. Dense, pure and impeccably balanced; given shape and grip by its firm mineral spine. This was racked for the first time in April, following 16 months on its lees. Impressively concentrated and persistent, especially considering the crop level of 54 hectoliters per hectare.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2001

Balance and Complexity

A leading light in Meursault, Burgundy, Arnaud Ente and his wife, Marie-Odile craft exquisite micro-production Burgundies that easily compete with the finest in the region. The Domaine owns four hectares which are managed with a very small and hands-on team. The key grape varieties here are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, used to produce stand out Meursault, Puligny Montrachet and Bourgogne Pinot Noir that are renowned for their precision and elegance.

The style has tended towards the opulent, with late picking for fuller ripeness being a key part of Arnaud's philosophy in the 1990s. More recently though the wines have presented with greater levels of freshness and minerality as the winemaking practices have changed and evolved.
