Puligny Montrachet Les Pucelles Henri Boillot 2022 showcases the potential of a 0.57hectare plot within the esteemed Premier Cru site `Les Pucelles`. The estate, established in 1885 but taken over by Henri Boillot in 1975, benefits from the family’s generational winemaking heritage. The vines, aged around 50 years old, thrive in clay and limestone soils, resulting in concentrated grapes. The grapes are aged in barrels (60% new) for 12months. This wine reflects the character of its terroir, combining traditional practices with a focus on quality. Domaine Henri Boillot operates as both a wine estate and a négociant, exemplifying their dual expertise.
Vinous
- The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles 1er Crus is an absolute delight. Bright and effusive, with tons of aromatic presence, the Pucelles is immediately charming. Lemon confit, crushed rocks, almond and a hint of reduction all soar out of the glass. Vibrant and wonderfully nuanced, the Pucelles is lights out. - Antonio Galloni

Father and Son

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
