Domaine Leflaive is one of the leading wine producers in Puligny-Montrachet, focusing almost entirely on white wines made from Chardonnay. Leflaive has currently 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premier Cru sites and no fewer than 5 hectares of Grand Cru vineyards. This cuvée comes from ‘Les Pucelles’, where the Domaine owns three biodynamically farmed parcels. The 2018 vintage is a full-bodied, elegant Chardonnay, boasting notes of orchard fruit, citrus, butter and mineral elements.

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles 1er Cru is more malic on the nose, touches of green apple, Williams pear and crushed stone. I would have liked just a little more vigour. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity. A little salinity emerges towards the second half that has impressive substance. Long tail on the finish. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting. Neal Martin22nd November 2022

Domaine Leflaive

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
