The 2016 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles stands out for its precise and concentrated expression of Chardonnay. This wine exhibits a cool aroma with notes of citrus and a subtle mineral edge, reflecting the vineyard`s well-drained limestone and chalky soils. The palate is direct, showcasing a linear structure that suggests significant aging potential. Domaine Leflaive, an early adopter of biodynamic practices, tends to showcase terroir character in their wines, particularly in Les Pucelles, a site esteemed for its proximity to the Grand Cru Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet.
92 Vinous
(frost cut production by 30% in 2016): Pale yellow. The closest of these premier crus to exotic on the nose, offering scents of ripe peach, hazelnut and honey. Compellingly rich and sweet on the palate, but with its sucrosité leavened by a distinctly sappy quality. As dense and broad as this wine is, it also shows good chewy firmness on the very long, tactile back end. Nicely ripe for the vintage, this wine will need some time to burn off some of its baby fat. But showing very well considering the recent bottling.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2018

Domaine Leflaive

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
