Formed in 2003, Domaine Alain Chavy is an independent estate, known for elegant, low-intervention wines. The Domaine currently owns 6.5 hectares of vineyards, including key parcels in the Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru vineyards of Le Champs Gain, Le Clavaillon, Les Folatières and Les Pucelles, where this release comes from. The 2020 vintage is still in its prime youth and will benefit from a few years in the cellar before being opened.
Vinous
The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet les Pucelles 1er Cru has a lifted green apple and pear scented bouquet. The palate is cohesive on the entry, moderate depth though it just runs out of a bit of energy towards the finish. Needs a pep up and actually, it does melt together and gain more personality with aeration. Neal Martin1st December 2021

The Chavy family has been a fixture in Puligny-Montrachet for more than two centuries. The son of Gérard Chavy, Alain established his own domaine in 2003, when his family’s vineyards were split between him and his brother, Jean-Louis.

Domaine Alain Chavy comprises about 10ha of vineyards in and around Puligny. In addition to several well-located village parcels, Alain owns plots in the prestigious Premiers Crus of Les Folatières, Les Champs Gain, Les Pucelles and Les Clavoillons. These are complemented by several small holdings in neighbouring Chassagne-Montrachet and Meursault.

At six metres deep Alain’s underground cellar is the deepest in the village, ensuring a cool environment in which his wines can ferment and mature very gradually. Alain practises low-intervention winemaking, with minimal bâttonage and sparing use of new oak allowing Puligny’s prized terroir to shine through in his famously elegant, mineral-driven Chardonnays.
