The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrières from Henri Boillot exemplifies the potential of Chardonnay from this esteemed region. Domaine Henri Boillot, founded in the late 19th century, is noted for its focus on terroir-driven wines. Les Perrières is an exceptional Premier Cru site characterised by a stony topsoil above limestone, contributing to the wine`s minerality. The vintage conditions yielded a ripe and concentrated profile, with notable aromas of citrus and subtle floral hints. The palate exhibits a structured body, marked by a defined acidity that leads to a precise, mineral finish.

Father and Son

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
