Etienne Sauzet owns and manages vineyard plots in some of the most esteemed terroirs in Puligny-Montrachet and neighbouring appellations. The Domaine was founded in the early 20th century by Etienne Sauzet and has been managed by several generations of the Sauzet family. The portfolio includes this ‘Les Perrières’, a Premier Cru vineyard which benefits from a favourable position with good exposure to sunlight. The 2016 vintage in Burgundy is generally regarded as a very good year, both for red and white wines. The whites are known for their freshness, purity of fruit, and expressive aromatics.
Vinous
(from a 1988 planting--younger than the Referts--on better-drained soil with more calcaire): Distinctly more shy on the nose, hinting at white peach, apple, spices and minerals. Then less full on the palate but more taut and salty, with its pronounced minerality giving it more intensity and energy. Showing less personality in the early going than the Referts and uncompromisingly dry on the back end, with the combination of minerality and firm acidity giving excellent cut to the finish. There was no frost damage here and the crop level was a rather full 48 hectoliters per hectare.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2017
