Puligny Montrachet Les Folatières Domaine Leflaive 2017 is a Premier Cru white wine crafted from Chardonnay grapes in Burgundy, France. Produced using biodynamic practices, this offering embodies the precision of Les Folatières, a climat celebrated for its limestone-rich soils. At 13.5% alcohol, the wine underwent 12 months of maturation in 25% new French oak barrels, followed by six months in stainless steel to enhance clarity. The 2017 vintage is distinguished by a balance of fruit and minerality, revealing notes of white peach, citrus zest, and subtle smoky oak. This bottling exemplifies the traditional Leflaive approach, focusing on elegance and a saline finish. Domaine Leflaive, established in 1717, is renowned for its commitment to quality and sustainability in winemaking.
Vinous
(this was the first vineyard harvested in 2017, according to Brice de La Morandière): Ripe aromas of peach and orange juice complicated by a leesy nuance. Broad and suave in the mouth, with a peach flavor lifted and intensified by a floral component. This sharply focused Folatières conveys a compelling impression of sweetness, yet the residual sugar here is barely one gram per liter, according to winemaker Pierre Vincent. Finishes pure and very long, with a light touch.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2018

A pretty bouquet of citrus blossom, Meyer lemon, crisp green pear and pastry cream introduces the 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Folatières, a medium to full-bodied wine that's beautifully satiny and elegant, with excellent depth and dimension, a harmonious sense of completeness and bright balancing acids, concluding with a long and pure finish. This was the first of Leflaive's holdings to be picked in 2017.William Kelley4th January 2019

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity.
