The 2016 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières is a notable Puligny Premier Cru Chardonnay from a vintage marked by climatic challenges. This wine reveals a precise outline with aromas of citrus zest, pear and a pronounced minerality. The palate showcases a balance of acidity and texture, along with a length that reflects the terroir`s influence. Domaine Leflaive is recognised for pioneering biodynamic practices in Puligny-Montrachet and manages a 1.26-hectare plot in the Les Folatières vineyard.

The most aromatically expressive of these wines to this point, with peach and floral notes suggesting riper fruit than the Clavoillon. Juicy and nicely delineated in the mouth, with an element of rocky minerality giving the stone fruit flavors a complementary saline quality. Finishes with excellent rising length.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2018

Domaine Leflaive

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
