Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 2013 is a medium-bodied Burgundy white wine from the Premier Cru climat of Les Folatières in the Puligny-Montrachet appellation of the Côte de Beaune. Now led by Brice de la Morandière, Domaine Leflaive is one of the most influential estates in Puligny-Montrachet. The estate focuses almost entirely on white wines made from Chardonnay, including four Grand Cru and four Premier Cru expressions. This release hails from the Premier Cru of Les Folatières, where Leflaive owns a 1.26-hectare plot. "This too is gorgeously pure with its airy, cool and complex nose that is composed by notes of white flower and freshly cut citrus fruit that are trimmed in just a hint of pain grillé. The highly energetic and intensely mineral-inflected middle weight flavours possess good richness but also terrific delineation on the firm finish that is dry, long and moderately austere." (this and the following premier crus were bottled in March): Pale, bright yellow. Musky, fruit-driven aromas of ripe peach, nectarine and tangerine. Supple and plump but dry, showing less obvious acidity and cut than the Clavoillon. Finishes with a dusty impression of extract. But in an awkward stage two months after the bottling.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2015

Domaine Leflaive

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
