The 2012 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières presents a structured expression of Chardonnay, reflecting the complexities of its 1er Cru terroir. It features notes of green apple and subtle white blossoms, underscored by a mineral backbone derived from the clay-limestone soils. This wine is marked by a distinct acidity, leading to a crisp citrus finish with lingering savoury undertones. Domaine Leflaive is noted for its commitment to biodynamic viticulture, enhancing the expression of their vineyards. The estate`s focus on precision has contributed to the enduring reputation of this Premier Cru site.
92 Vinous
(bottled in late April): Bright light yellow. Musky aroma of peach nectar does not show the lift or precision of the Clavoillon. Sweet on the attack, then ripe, broad and classically dry in the middle, displaying a fine-grained texture and surprising tension. Finishes perfumed, gripping and long. This calls for four or five years of cellaring. Last year I found more of a difference in quality between this wine and the 2012 Clavoillon.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2014

Domaine Leflaive

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
