Based in Chassagne-Montrachet, Jean-Marc Pillot is particularly associated with white wines from Chardonnay, although it also produces reds from Pinot Noir in both Chassagne and neighbouring Santenay. The Domaine owns approximately 11 hectares of estate vineyards that supply about two-thirds of its production, with purchased grapes complementing the rest. This 2010 Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru ‘Les Combettes’ is in a great spot right now, brimming with notes of tropical fruit, citrus, walnuts and a touch of herbs.

Good bright yellow. Ripe, rather powerful aromas of stone fruits, acacia flower and truffle. Dense and silky but also quite vibrant, with harmonious acidity giving shape to the very rich mid-palate. Very tactile, layered 2010 with an impressively long, sweet finish. Give this at least four or five years in the cellar.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2012

The 2010 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes is super-refined. It, too, shows the exotic side of Puligny but with more restraint and a less extroverted personality than some of the other wines in this lineup. Elements of tension and minerality give the Combettes more pure energy than some of the other Pulignys, but it is hard to say that the Combettes is meaningfully better. More accurately, it is simply different in style. Anticipated maturity: 2013+.

This is an impressive set of wines from Jean-Marc Boillot. The 2010s are very clearly marked by their terroirs, a departure from vintages such as 2009 and 2011, where the wines are less vivid. Boillot began harvesting on September 19th. Natural alcohols came in around 12.8%-13.2%, pretty much the same as in 2011.
