Based in Meursault, Domaine Jacques Prieur is a relatively large Burgundy producer, with approximately 21 hectares under vine. Today the estate is owned by the Labruyère family, whose portfolio also includes properties in Pomerol, Beaujolais and Champagne. This release hails from the Premier Cru ‘Les Combettes’, where the Domaine owns a 1.5-hectare plot. The wine was entirely fermented in oak barrels and aged for 20 months before bottling. A polished Chardonnay with notes of white fruit and hints of aniseed.

(bottled two weeks prior to my visit): Bright, pale yellow. Pear and white peach on the nose, lifted by a strong floral quality. Dense, concentrated and nicely balanced, with lovely Puligny clarity to the sappy, chiseled flavors of white fruits, spices and flowers. A bit youthfully imploded today but the wine's excellent flavor intensity is plain to see. Finishes classy, dry and long.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2013
