Puligny Montrachet Les Combettes Henri Boillot 2022 is a Premier Cru Chardonnay sourced from 51-year-old vines. The wine undergoes 12 months of ageing, with 50% in new oak barrels. Aromas of preserved lemons, acacia, and subtle spice come forth on the nose. The palate showcases an elegant structure, marked by precise minerality and a slightly saline finish. This wine is recommended for consumption between 2030 and 2035+. Henri Boillot, a notable producer, has a history rooted in his family’s winemaking traditions.
Vinous
- The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes 1er Cru shows the more unctuous side of the village. Apricot, butter, spice and tropical notes all race out of the glass. The Combettes will be enjoyed most by readers who appreciate the more extroverted side of white Burgundy. This fruit came in on August 25 and was the first parcel harvested that year. - Antonio Galloni

Father and Son

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
