Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 2014 is a full-bodied Burgundy white wine from the Premier Cru climat of Les Combettes in the Côte de Beaune. Domaine Boillot traces its roots back to the 1880s, though the wines it produces are undeniably modern and approachable. Father and son Henri and Guillaume run the by the Meursault-based winery which in recent years has earned a reputation for making some of the most exciting wines in the Côte d`Or. On the 2014 Les Combettes. "Here the nose is markedly more floral than that of the Perrières but is otherwise quite similar. The exceptionally well-detailed and highly energetic flavours possess a highly seductive and generously proportioned mouth feel before concluding in a refined, palate coating and gorgeously persistent finish. This is very classy and impeccably well-balanced juice that in contrast to many wines in the range should be accessible on the younger side." Burghound, 2015

Father and Son

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
