Renowned for its exceptional white wines, Domaine Leflaive specializes in cuvées from four Grand Cru and four Premier Cru sites. This particular release is sourced from `Les Combettes,` situated among Puligny-Montrachet`s northernmost Premier Cru sites. Wines from this appellation often harmonize the brisk minerality of Puligny with the more rounded body characteristic of Meursault. The 2022 vintage is very promising, underscoring Burgundy`s resilience in maintaining its distinct character despite the challenges posed by increasingly extreme weather conditions.

The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru, which always suffers millerandage, has a taut, stony, Zen-like bouquet that, at the moment, is less flattering than the Les Folatières. This is going to bide its time. The palate is pretty complex, with a dab of lemon rind, a welcome bitterness and salinity, plus a very intense finish. The 2022 is one for Puligny diehards. I admire its aloofness and uncompromising nature. - Neil Martin

Domaine Leflaive

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
