The 2018 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes is a Chardonnay that reflects the distinct terroir of its Premier Cru origin. The nose offers a reserved profile with stony minerality alongside hints of green apple and wet stone. On the palate, the wine displays a saline character with a crisp acidity balancing the fruit`s subtle sweetness. Spices emerge towards the finish, enhancing its complexity. Domaine Leflaive, a pioneer in biodynamic viticulture, manages this 0.73-hectare plot, planted with vines dating back to 1963 and 1972, contributing to the wine`s depth and ageing potential.
Vinous
- The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru suffered more millerandage than others this year. In fact, Brice de la Morandière confessed that the vines are constantly being threatened with being grubbed up and they will review the situation every three years. This has a taut nose, very well defined, and more reserved and stonier than the Clavoillon, with alpine streams and dewy pasture scents unfurling in the glass. The well-balanced plate displays a saline tang on the entry, just a touch of orange peel and quite a spicy, persistent finish. Excellent.

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
