Founded in 1717, Domaine Leflaive has long been one of the most highly regarded white wine producers in Burgundy. The domaine focuses almost entirely on white wines made from Chardonnay, including four grand cru wines and four premier crus in Puligny-Montrachet. This is the 2013 vintage of its flagship Puligny-Montrachet, made with grapes that are biodynamically farmed and harvested by hand. After 12 months spent in cask, the wine was aged for 6 months in tank where it was prepared for bottling.
Vinous
(in tank): Bright, light yellow. Rather subdued aromas of lemon, grapefruit and white flowers. Fat and sweet on entry, and distinctly exotic after the 2014s. Nicely full in the middle but tight on the back end, perhaps a bit hardened by SO2. (Incidentally, Leflaive's Bourgogne Blanc, which I also sampled from tank, offers sappy, saline aromas and flavors of citrus and stone fruits and flowers and a tactile concentration that transcends its appellation.)Stephen Tanzer1st September 2015

Domaine Leflaive

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
