Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Pucelle Jean Chartron 2018 is a Premier Cru Monopole Chardonnay from the Côte de Beaune. This vineyard is a walled enclosure within the larger Les Pucelles site, featuring stony, well-drained limestone soils. The 2018 growing season was warm and dry, producing a wine with an opulent fruit profile and significant textural weight. Fermentation and maturation occurred in French oak, with 25% new wood to add structural complexity. It shows notes of ripe peach, toasted hazelnuts and a delicate floral lift.

Aromas of orange oil, lemon zest, green pear and freshly baked bread introduce the 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Pucelle, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping wine that`s, as usual, the more textural and gourmand of Chartron`s two emblematic clos. Broad but precise, it has turned out well.

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Pucelle 1er Cru has a slightly more leesy bouquet compared to Olivier Leflaive's Pucelles and not quite the same level of definition. The palate is harmonious on the entry with lemon zest, lime and orange pith. Slightly spicy with a dab of lemongrass towards the finish. It does not quite possess the effortlessness of the finest Premier Crus. But, it has charm and perhaps that will see this through in the longer-term. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.
